Dashpots and grub screws

Who says technical terms can't be interesting? I often come across technical terms that, to the unfamiliar ear, sound extremely curious.

Dashpot. You quite often find these cylinders attached to doorframes to slow down the door as it closes. Reason for interest: it just sounds like a great name for a mad inventor in a children's novel. Professor Dashpot, anyone?

Grub screw is another good one. See these little pieces of metal together and you can imagine them squirming around grub-like in a box of fishing tackle. But in fact the name has its roots in the old Germanic word for dig (graben in modern German) and that's also where we get English words like grave and groove. Dig that!
